BlogHer Presentation: Open Source Participation: How to advance to the next level

Sat, 07/19/2008 - 17:58 -- webchick

Here's the presentation that Marianne Masculino and I did about how to contribute to both WordPress and Drupal:

Contributing to WordPressContributing to Drupal

It was really cool to see the overlap between how WordPress does stuff and how Drupal does stuff, and all the ways the communities are similar and how they're different in how they work. Also, Marianne was really awesome and nice. :)

Thanks to everyone who turned out to see it... It was great to meet you! :)

Also, I found a "live blogging" version of the session at http://www.sparkplugging.com/marketing/blogher-2008-open-source/.

After going through one-hundred-and-seventy-two slides, it almost felt like I am watching the live presentation.

Really...only 7% female population in the Drupal community? Now that's just plain bad news :/

Here's what I consider good news... This is the best Wordpress-Drupal presentation I've seen in my entire life. I have never seen Wordpress tanden with Drupal like this before. Definitely impressive. Two-thumbs up and swaying all around!

Thanks webchick for sharing this wonderful surprise. Too bad very few men have seen this one.

p.s. I'm gonna get myself some Wordpress/Drupal lovin' ;)

7% isn't great, although it's better than the 1.5% participation in open source overall.

http://groups.drupal.org/drupalchix is a place where women can come to meet other women involved in Drupal, and where we're working together to brainstorm ideas on how to bring more women to the fold!

Keeping my masculinity intact, I joined the Drupalchix group. I find this one intriguing... but most of all, I believe that Drupal has the best seven-percent of women out there in the world of open source. ;)

I'll recommend it to my girl--friends (not girlfriends) and maybe it will convince them to switch from the other CMS too, ehem (I'll try not to give a clue about the one ending with a "!").

Sorry if I sound like John of Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles. I better run!

What do you have to do once you join? Is drupal just for running blogs, like wordpress or blogger?

Turning drupal into some kind of cult or worse yet, a chick cult is ridiculous, it's fraken software for crying out loud and a complicated piece of software at that, made for developers not the everyday user. A place where women can meet other women ? What the hell is this a social club ? ha ha

What's next, going to have women wearing drupal bikinis just to attract more women ? How about drupal lip stick and the drupal bra, geeze I'm about to puke.

"CMS part of Drupal is proof of concept of what the CMF part can do"

Never read it that clearly :)
